Building Captain

   Hi, I am Sofia Quagliariello and I am the current captain of the build team. I have been involved in FIRST since 6th grade as a member of our school’s FLL team. I joined the Sparks in my sophomore year as a coder, but I switched to the build team in junior year and have loved it ever since. I prefer hands-on work and being a part of the build team has allowed me to gain invaluable first-hand experience in the field of mechanics. 
   Our robot this year was largely inspired by a robot from a previous year, and that is the reason we began testing a scissor lift. It has evolved from a cardboard model to an entirely unique design. We modified a goBilda linear actuator kit to move the scissor lift up and down. It is the build team’s greatest accomplishment this season. As we were prototyping, we designed the plate, arm, and gripper system and found it to be an effective combination. The gripper is the most interesting part of our robot and my personal favorite part. It is mounted on a servo so that it has the ability to rotate blocks for stacking, or to readjust without moving the entire robot when picking up blocks.
