About us

Team #5910 Sparks, is an all-girls team from the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur in Villanova, PA and is now in its eighth season. Since its establishment in 2011, the team has expanded greatly in both experience and numbers. With this expansion, the team has grown in capacity and in operation in all areas of FTC Robotics, including: Building, Programming, CAD, Outreach, and Business.

In the past, the world of engineering has been heavily male-dominated. Though opportunities for women are increasing, there are still disparities within the STEM fields. Our team, therefore, is committed to “sparking” women’s engineering in society by instructing and inspiring our own members, reaching out to our school community, and being active in the engineering community beyond our campus to ensure the opportunities for women in STEM are as bountiful and relevant as those offered to men.

In past years, we have had many team members but with graduations and years passing our team had many spots to fill. We have lots of new team members, most of whom, never have done robotics before. We are embracing the opportunity to teach them about the engineering and communication skills that robotics involves and how much fun working on a team can be!
